“The Freemasons are useful to the Regime” – Freemasonry and Cinema

The “poking the beehive” series will come back with its season finale, or not… Meanwhile, I would like to share my most recent article, published in the last volume of REHMLAC+ (Revista de Estudios Históricos de la Masonería Latinoamericana y Caribeña).

The whole journal is worth reading, and you will find amazing articles on the theme “Freemasonry and Mass Culture”. “Rehmlac+” is an Open Access Journal and you can find it HERE.

My article, “The Freemasons are useful to the regime”:An analysis of the representations of Freemasonry in cinema and its utility on reinforcing or criticizing the establishment“, approaches the questions on the representations of Freemasonry in Cinema, mainly, in the context of what Giorgio Agamben theorized as “States of Exception”.

To think about this particular aspect I choose three movies:

Les Forces Occultes (France, 1943)

Independência ou Morte (Brazil, 1972)

Un Borghese Piccolo Piccolo (Italy, 1977)
